Welcome
to
Olivet
Baptist
Church!
Please browse around our website to discover what our
congregation’s life and ministry is all about. Our
church’s main mission is “to be and do what matters to
Jesus Christ”.
Aahh, spring!! Beauty
will break out all over and we’ll soon enjoy the colours of
a new growing season!! Even
though Easter comes early in 2008, we still think of spring
when we come to this time of year.
I believe we experience a number of “spring
signals” around the season of Easter;
signals which relate to us both physically and
spiritually.
Firstly, spring signals new
life. Growth
appears where there was nothing but barrenness before.
Grass grows where there was only dirt previously and
even cracks in the sidewalk surrender to some persistent
greenery. Not
only that, but spring brings revived
life or re-growth in certain plants that were dormant over
the long winter. From
the green leaves on most trees to the multi-coloured tulips,
we see revived growth everywhere.
There is also a sense of warmth and comfort we feel with the arrival of spring.
Mild temperatures and weather conditions allow a return
to outside activities like biking, hiking, soccer, gardening,
sitting on the deck or playing in the park.
The cold of winter gives way to the warmth of the
approaching summer.
Finally, we could even say that spring signals a new
hope and joy in most people.
As the temperature goes up, so do our spirits!
We can see it in the squirrels and chipmunks, the birds
and even the insects--- and
you feel it in yourself too if you’re honest.
You feel this urge to breathe deeply the sweet, spring
air that whispers of better days ahead!!
These spring signals are perfect illustrations of spiritual
truths. Our new
life comes through Jesus Christ.
His death on the cross and His resurrection from the
grave make it possible for us to experience new life
spiritually where there was only barrenness and death before.
And the revival, warmth and hope of spring mirrors the
work of the Holy Spirit in the people of God -
poking, prodding and guiding us to renewed vitality and
fruitfulness. May
this spring “signal” some exciting times for you as you
love and serve our Lord!
