Welcome
to Olivet Baptist Church!
Please browse around our website to discover a little bit about
what makes our congregation tick!! Our church’s main mission is
“To Be And Do What Matters To Jesus Christ”.
My name is Bruce Jones, and together with my wife, Ruth, and our
children, Bethany and Caleb, we have been ministering here since
1998. Please refer to the
Who We Are
page containing our purpose statement and doctrinal beliefs for
any particulars concerning our beliefs and priorities or feel
free to contact me
here.
Thanks again for visiting us online. We hope to see you in
person someday!
Things are very busy around the church these days as we are
embarking on a project we call the “Foyer Remodel and
Accessibility Upgrade” project. This project will do away with
our worn out and inefficient double entry way and replace it
with a single entry. The project will also make some needed
repairs in the foyer and provide an elevator/lift system that
will make the whole building accessible to all people,
regardless of age or mobility. There will be no outside stairs
to climb, a couple added storage areas and much more
energy-efficient doors and windows. We have been raising funds
for this project for some time now-- and that process will
continue even as the actual work begins. The Lord has brought
us this far and we trust Him to take us the rest of the way to
finish this much needed work.
Any type of “bricks and mortar” projects cost money and cause
us to lean heavily on the Lord and His promises to supply our
needs. Nothing tests a congregation’s faith like jumping in to
projects that require us to wait on God, sacrifice financially,
trust Him and take steps forward, especially when the end is not
in sight as we take the first step! One of our long time
deacons regularly jokes that the biggest mistake the early
church ever made was moving into church buildings!! While we
have all felt that way one time or another, we know that these
times also build our faith and our determination to follow God
in spite of all obstacles!
Much more important than buildings and equipment are the people
God has entrusted to us and the people that need Jesus in our
community and beyond. Even in the midst of building campaigns,
we continue to minster to the needs and hearts of people as God
gives us the ability. Whether it is through children’s
ministries, youth ministries, small groups, fellowship times,
Sunday School classes, the Sunday worship services, visiting
and hospitality or any other of a number of other opportunities,
we know that people matter to God and they should matter to us as
a church as well.
We are so thankful to God for His gracious guidance and care for
this church over the years! As we step forward with His
strength each day, we can rejoice in the fact that He has led us
every step of the way so far—and we can trust Him to continue
leading until He takes us home. I love the words of Psalm
48:14, where the writer says, “For this God is our God for ever
and ever; He will be our Guide even to the end.” One day the
end of this earthly life will come, but the guidance of Almighty
God will continue into eternity for those whose trust has been
placed in the Savior, Jesus Christ!
Thank you for visiting our church’s website-- it’s hard to keep
it fully and completely updated all the time, but this will give
you an idea as to who we are and what’s going on!! You are an
important reason why we exist and, if there’s anything we can do
to help you on your spiritual journey, we would love to answer
any questions you may have or meet with you personally. May you
experience the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit this year
in your personal life and your family and may you know the great
blessing of the God who loves you!
With my love in Christ,
Bruce Jones
