Children's Ministries:

Children are very important to us at Olivet Baptist Church.  In the Bible, as we read about Jesus and his ministry on earth, it is very evident that Jesus loves the little children and so should we!  We have had a Children’s Ministry Coordinator on staff since April, 2001. Ruth Jones has been fulfilling this role since November, 2004. She does a tremendous job keeping all of the children’s programs running and all of the volunteers organized in this intense and exciting ministry.

Sunday School - From 10 to 11am on Sunday mornings, children in Grade 5 and under are invited to come to the “big room” downstairs for a singing and sharing time.  Then, the group is divided into age appropriate, fun packed, small group times led by caring adults.  Starting April 6 through May 4, we'll be taking part in "Arctic Antics'.  It's all about family relationships.  Family - it's at the centre of the universe for children.  Children will learn about obeying God by obeying our parents, sharing Jesus with our families, praying for our families, and how God helps us get along with our families.  Children will discover how to be live by faith!  It's an action-packed and fun time together.

During Church Time - During our weekly Sunday morning 11:00am service, we minister to children in 3 ways:

1. Nursery and Toddler room available throughout the whole service.  These rooms are well-equipped with toys and books for the toddlers; cribs, change table, and rocking chairs for the babies.  There are always 2 adults to supervise these young ones.
    

2. Junior Church for children who are 3 years old to Grade 3.  This special time which includes a puppet show, games, crafts, a Bible story, and snack begins part way through the church service.  There are always 2 adults and 1-2 young helpers to supervise during this time.  
    

3. Pew packs are made available each week for those children who are too old for Junior church.  Individual ziplock bags include a variety of activity sheets and pencil crayons to keep children occupied during the “message” time.

KidZone (Mondays after school) - Children aged JK to Grade 6 are all welcome at our KidZone program which runs Mondays after school.  It is a free program and run by nearly 20 volunteer members of the church.  The program kicks off with a nutritious snack, is followed by some lively songs, an interesting Bible story, some time to discuss the story, and then a rotation of fun activities that the children choose for themselves.  It starts at 3:45pm and winds down at 5:30pm. 

KidZone is embarking on a new adventure from Monday, March 17 to Monday, May 26.  We will have lots to celebrate as we focus on many holidays such as Hebrew holidays celebrated by God's people since Old Testament times, seasonal holidays, and holidays taken from the church calendar.  God's family always has the best reasons to rejoice:  We know who God is and realize what He has done for us.  At KidZone, we will discover how God's people around the world and throughout time, have celebrated and still celebrate God's gifts to us.

VBS (Vacation Bible School) - Starting Sunday, June 22 and running after school Monday, June 23 to Wednesday, June 25, this year’s VBS is sure to be just as good as the last one; maybe even better!  This year, we're heading to the beach, so get ready to feel the surf and catch the wave of God's love.  We are going to have a blast as we surf through God's Word and develop new Beach Be-Attitudes:  Be Obedient, Be Kind, Be Forgiving, Be Bold and Believe!  We are also gearing up for a great time of surfing with Sandy Castle, singing Beach tunes, running off energy at Rockin' Rec., making great beach souvenirs, shopping at the store and New for 2008, making discoveries in the Surf 'n Sand Science Lab!
